Evaluating the fire damage at your Downtown Knoxville premises is crucial in establishing a restoration plan. SERVPRO technicians evaluate different things depending on whether the incident affected prominent properties like the James Park House and Blount Mansion or a unit within an apartment complex like Marble Alley Lofts, Church + Henley, or Marble Alley Lofts. The size of the fire also matters since it influences the spread of smoke residues and the level of material deterioration.

Resources necessary for thorough fire evaluation

  • Char gauges
  • Moisture sensors
  • White sponges

Fixing the damages caused by a fire is a gradual process that may take days or weeks to complete, leaving room for further deterioration. Finding ways to halt secondary fire damage is critical for a favorable outcome. From the evaluations our SERVPRO technicians do, we identify critical areas that need safeguarding.

SERVPRO® Handles Downtown Knoxville Fire Cleanup Safely

Downtown Knoxville is a dynamic and culturally rich district in East Tennessee. One of the hallmarks of this area is its vibrant arts and cultural scene. The district is home to the Knoxville Museum of Art, offering an impressive contemporary and classical art collection. The Bijou Theatre, a century-old venue, showcases many live performances, from Broadway shows to stand-up comedy, making it a cultural gem within the city.

After a fire damage incident in Downtown Knoxville, the debris left can be extensive and diverse, posing various challenges to property owners. The type and extent of debris can vary depending on the intensity of the fire, the materials involved, and the effectiveness of firefighting efforts. Waste containing smoke residues can persistently emit smoke odors if not properly removed. Debris may also cause hazards such as trips and falls. Prompt debris removal expedites the recovery process. It clears the path for reconstruction and rebuilding.

Professional restoration teams play a crucial role in debris removal. Their expertise and specialized equipment ensure the cleanup process is safe, thorough, and efficient. SERVPRO teams are well-trained in safety protocols and are equipped with the appropriate PPEs. We know how to identify and mitigate potential hazards in a fire-damaged environment.

Common types of debris to expect after fire damage

  • Burnt structural materials
  • Electrical and plumbing debris
  • Melted items
  • Unsalvageable home contents

Ensuring Safe Disposal of Debris

SERVPRO crews categorize debris into different types, separating burnt materials, hazardous waste, salvageable items, and non-hazardous waste. This ensures that each kind is disposed of appropriately and complies with local regulations. Some things may need to be transported to a specific waste disposal facility.

Knoxville Homeowners Eliminate Fire Damage Stains and Odors

4/11/2023 (Permalink)

Firefighters standing outside of a tan home After the heroic first responders have extinguished the fire, Call SERVPRO for fire damage restoration.

Knoxville SERVPRO Fire Damage Mitigation Addresses Stains, Odors, Residues, and Debris

Whether it comes from cooking, electrical component ignition, or even lit candles, residential fire damage can leave behind residues and odors that are challenging to mitigate in full. While wet and dry cleaning options are available for homeowners, a “do-it-yourself” solution does not guarantee that the problems created by smoke damage, namely acidic soot stains and fire odors, can be removed entirely.

SERVPRO fire damage cleanup specialists can restore Knoxville homes to a safe, clean, pre-fire state. Services offered by this Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) accredited firm include debris removal, controlled demolition, sanitation with EPA-registered biocides, odor control, and rebuilding.

What Makes Fire Damage Stains So Difficult to Remove?

Fire and smoke damage cleanup requires a specific level of care that might not be immediately obvious to homeowners seeking to clean their properties themselves. On top of that, cleaning the damage without the right tools and knowledge can cause further damage to structures and contents, which can impact compensation efforts from a home insurance provider.

  • Soot clings to a wide array of surfaces. It seeps into porous and unfinished materials and settles in the nooks and crannies. It can also clog up HVAC systems and etch into ceramics and glass without delicate treatment
  • Fire damage residues typically require gentle cleaning before moving on to more heavy-duty solutions. Moving from light soils to heavier ones during cleanup minimizes the potential for secondary damages from spreading soot
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is a must for keeping home occupants safe. Soot and fire odors can heavily impact comfort and indoor air quality. In the event of a fire that required water for fire suppression, there is a chance that mold is present if suppression services were rendered more than 24 to 48 hours before cleanup efforts commenced

Because of the risks, level of care, and potential for secondary damages caused by fire and smoke damage, fire damage restoration specialists are highly recommended for a more comprehensive and safe cleanup after a residential structure fire.

SERVPRO Fire Damage Stain and Odor Removal Tools

SERVPRO fire restoration technicians can respond to residential cleanup calls in as little as several hours. After inspecting the property for damage and formulating a cleanup plan, technicians can:

  • Use dry cleaning sponges, Crumbly Cleaner, dust cloths, and gentle agitating tools to dislodge dry soot from surfaces for collection with HEPA-filter vacuums
  • Deploy OSHA-approved wet cleaning solutions, including detergents and alkaline cleaners, for more moderate stains and residues from fires
  • Eliminate protein residues from burnt meat–typically a result of cooking fires–by turning them into water-soluble byproducts for cleanup by SERVPRO’s enzyme digesters
  • Salvage heavily charred wood furniture and structural materials with abrasion cleaning. Soda ash, one of the more commonly-used blast media, also deodorizes to an extent
  • SERVPRO odor control with dry solvent-emitting thermal foggers, HVAC system cleanup, and time-release capsules, among other solutions, can eliminate odors on the particle level instead of merely masking them

General Content Cleaning Counts During Fire Damage Restoration in Knoxville

3/13/2023 (Permalink)

HEPA filter installing Clearing the indoor air of fire-causing particles is crucial for Knoxville occupants. "Like it never even happened."

SERVPRO Uses Advanced Equipment for Fire Damage Cleanup in Knoxville

Fire damage restoration services are meant to give relief to property owners after the fire has been put out. You're mistaken if you thought you could relax once the fire is extinguished. When smoke and soot particles mix with the water used to extinguish the fire, corrosive acids may form, which are likely to cause additional damage to the walls, ceilings, and other personal belongings.

The safety of the occupants is usually given the highest priority during fire damage cleanup in Knoxville. After that, cleaning and restoring the affected items should follow. Our SERVPRO technicians perform general content cleaning to remove soot, odor, smoke, and other contaminants from your electronics, clothing, furniture, and more.

An air scrubber is one of the key devices that our SERVPRO technicians use to remove contaminants from the air. It uses both chemical and mechanical means to do the cleaning. The following explains the mechanism behind its operations:

  • Chemical filtration: During smoke odor removal, the air is passed over activated carbon, and the contaminants get absorbed and neutralized. For high levels of efficiency, the carbon gets reactivated or replaced after some time.
  • Mechanical filtration: Air is passed over a series of filters (HEPA filter) and then released back into the environment after the filtration of contaminants.
  • Ozone generation: Some scrubbers use ozone gas to oxidize and neutralize pollutants leaving the air odor-free and clean.
  • UV light: UV light is used in some scrubbers to break down the DNA of viruses, bacteria, and mold spores. When that happens, they cannot reproduce, reducing the chances of further contamination.

Our SERVPRO technicians have the knowledge to determine which air scrubber or odor removal technique is suitable for a particular situation. Sometimes, we may be forced to combine several methods for an effective restoration process.

How SERVPRO Deals with Smoke For Rocky Hill Fire Damage Restorations

7/11/2022 (Permalink)

closeup of smoke Smoke is pervasive: it finds its way into all corners of a burned area, embeds itself deep into materials, and cannot be removed through normal means.

Fire Damage Restoration

Although it may be the last thing on your mind when a fire hits, smoke often becomes one of the costliest and most challenging aspects to recover from after a fire. Smoke is pervasive: it finds its way into all corners of a burned area, embeds itself deep into materials, and cannot be removed through normal means. However, it cannot be ignored. As long after other aspects of the fire damage in your Rocky Hill home have disappeared, the smell of smoke may still linger in the air. SERVPRO stocks machines specifically designed to combat smoke for this reason, as nothing but the most high-quality equipment can effectively eliminate smoke odors.

The bedrock of our smoke removal strategy for victims of fire damage in Rocky Hill is the deodorizing fogger. Foggers are machines that, as the name implies, create a specialized fog in your home. This fog comprises special cleaning and deodorizing compounds that seek out smoke particles and neutralize them, removing the odor at its source. The fog simulates the path and behavior of smoke so that deep corners and challenging materials are treated effectively. We employ two varieties of this machine: thermal foggers, placed in large areas such as rooms or hallways, and ULV (ultra low-volume) foggers, which help to deodorize tight places such as the space behind walls or in HVAC vents.

In addition to fogging technology, our expansive selection of cleaning tools allows us to target larger aggregations of soot and ash, quickly eliminating the most intense odor sources. Furthermore, our planning expertise and site management help to keep odors from spreading and contain treatments to as tiny an area as possible in your home.

SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville has the tools and training to remove any smoke odors your home may have. Call us 24/7 at (865) 862-8907.

Careless Mistake Causes Fiery Catastrophe

6/15/2022 (Permalink)

burning home; fire trucks extinguishing flames Our team of fire damage experts comes as soon as possible after the Fire Marshall clears your home for cleanup.

When A Fire Strikes Your Home, SERVPRO Will Be There to Help!

The end of the heating season does not mean that mornings and evenings are always cozy. Rather than turning the furnace back on many folks simply decide to use a space heater to take off the edge of the chill. Forget about the heater for even a moment or two, and the cheery warmth transforms into a blaze. Flames extinguished, SERVPRO arrives to set things right.

Space heaters are notorious causes of fire damage, including inside your Rocky Hill home. They are unstable and prone to tipping, especially since they need to be plugged into a wall socket, stretching their cords in under the feet of you or your family. Pets and children bump into them or drape items near them resulting in fast, hot fires that quickly get out of control.

Our team of fire damage experts comes as soon as possible after the Fire Marshall clears your home for cleanup. SERVPRO staff take basic and advanced classes in fire restoration. Once at your home a project manager assesses the damage and designs a comprehensive plan to return the premises back to preloss condition. You are part of the plan and invited to manage tasks that do not require specialized training.

It is wise to wait until you speak to our staff before jumping in to try to clean and restore. The nature of soot and smoke damage cleaning is sometimes counterintuitive. A homeowner is best off following specific directions rather than trying to use routine cleaning methods for extraordinary challenges.

Our team determines which surfaces respond best to dry cleaning, using dusters, dry sponges, or HEPA vacuums to clear ash and other dry, loose debris. Stickier grime, perhaps due to an oily accelerant like kitchen grease or candles, needs a spray and wipe technique with appropriate cleansers or even an abrasive sponge or cloth. Fabrics and carpeting often require a foam cleaner, applied with a brush or pouf. Items that sport carving or complicated construction like knick-knacks or window blinds restore well after immersion. SERVPRO has units that use immersion plus ultrasonic waves for deep cleaning. Only our certified technicians qualify to use this specialized approach.

The air itself needs scrubbing and deodorizing after a fire. SERVPRO staff members are familiar with various methods of deodorization. We match the odor “cure” with how the smell entered your home. Never a cover-up, our smoky aroma solutions remove the unpleasant stench.

Basics of Fire Damage Restoration for Knoxville Homes

5/15/2022 (Permalink)

a fire damaged bedroom with soot covering everything and debris everywhere Recovering from a fire in your home can be quite stressful. Contact our experienced team 24/7 to help you through this difficult time.

Factors of Fire Damage Restoration

It is important to determine the most efficient cleaning and restoring approach for damaged materials and contents in a home following fire loss events. Because there are multiple layers of needed restorative action, professionals of our recovery team evaluate the most pressing concerns to address these first. Several factors can influence the effectiveness of specific cleaning and soot removal solutions.

Where is Cleaning Needed?

When beginning fire damage restoration in Knoxville properties, it is necessary to determine where surface cleaning needs are required. Migrating loss effects can impact several building materials, and soil deposits on surfaces become substantial obstacles in the restoration process. A pre-job evaluation of the property determines what materials require surface cleaning techniques.

Factors of Successful Surface Cleaning

Beyond choosing the right product and approach for the specific materials affected, cleaning technicians must follow certain principles to ensure the most comprehensive and efficient solutions. Our educated FSRT-certified technicians appreciate these principles and their impact on the overall restoration process and necessary cleaning. These can include:

  • Time – this will measure the length of time passed between the exposure to harsh elements and adverse conditions to when the cleaning process begins.
  • Action – this factor measures the mechanical action chosen to aid the cleaning process. The use of dry vacuums, brushes, steel wool, and other abrasive products reduces the thickness and severity of post-fire residues.
  • Contact – contact determines the length of time between introducing a cleaning product or chemical against surface residues and soot deposits to when the secondary action is implemented to wipe this buildup away.
  • Temperature – warmer temperatures tend to allow chemical processes to happen faster. Technicians can manipulate the environmental conditions to suit the cleaning necessary in each situation.

Removing Smoke Residues Caused by Fire Damage to Your South Knoxville Home

3/8/2022 (Permalink)

burned home; fire damaged debris Smoke residue comes in different varieties, and some are easier to clean than others.

Eliminate Smoke Residues Created by Fire Damage

Smoke residue comes in different varieties, and some are easier to clean than others. Dry, wet, protein and fuel oil smoke residues are essential to know how to remove. Take the guesswork out of cleaning and restoring your fire damaged property in South Knoxville by hiring our expertly trained technicians today. We're here to help you through the situation and return your home to its pre-damage condition. Our SERVPRO technicians understand that it can produce both wet and dry smoke as the fire progresses through its stages. By using a specific cleaning approach for each item, we can completely restore your house.

The smoke residue left behind depends on the combustion rate, the amount of oxygen, and the kind of material or substance that burns throughout the entire South Knoxville fire. While we understand that if the event is fast-burning and oxygen-rich, it will produce dry smoke, while the fire is oxygen-starved, it will produce slow-burning, smoldering wet smoke. Natural materials such as wood, paper, cork, and other natural fibers create dry, small powdery residues that don't smear. However, synthetic materials like plastic and rubber often produce large easily smeared particles.

SERVPRO technicians are trained to determine the conditions of a dry versus wet smoke event and apply the proper cleaning procedures to handle each situation.

Cleaning Dry Smoke Residues - These types of residues can be easier to clean. Dry smoke only contains a few aerosols that deposit small, dry particles on surface areas and usually don't stain as deeply as wet smoke. Meaning that the residues and odors left behind by dry smoke take less aggressive cleaning tactics to remove. However, dry smoke fires tend to burn hotter and cause more heat damage than others.

Cleaning Wet Smoke Residues - This type of residue consists of a large concentration of aerosols, including varnishes, solvents, and other liquids. With these slow-burning fires, air currents aren't as high and give the wet smoke more time to creep into crevices and small enclosed areas that typically avoid damage in faster-burning fires.

We often run into situations at SERVPRO where many items exposed to wet smoke aren't restorable, even though the damage appears minimal. The aerosols penetrate surfaces and are absorbed into different materials, leaving large black particles behind and stripping stained finishes. Taking a minute to understand the possible reasons behind the causes of losing items in a fire is only one reason to hire us. We take a lot of pride in our work for you and want to assist you during this trying time. Contact SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville today for all of your restoration needs. Fast Service and Trained Professionals Make SERVPRO a Premier Fire Damage Restoration Service in Knoxville

Cleaning the smoke and soot residues during fire damage restoration of your Knoxville home is one of the most testing aspects of the process. SERVPRO techs use several scientific principles to effectively clean the residue without damaging the surfaces after a fire incident.

One of the most important factors that make SERVPRO techs efficient during fire damage restoration of your Knoxville home is their use of chemistry during the cleaning process. SERVPRO techs understand that for fast and efficient cleaning, it is important to use the right cleaning solutions that can bridge the gap between the soil and water, making the cleaning process easier.

How do SERVPRO Techs Choose Which Cleaning Agent to Use During House Fire Cleanup in Knoxville?

The choice of a chemical cleaning agent for removing residue depends on the type of soot residue deposited after a fire incident in your Knoxville home. However, one of the key principles that SERVPRO techs use is "like dissolves like."

The restorers use a water-based cleaning agent to remove soils that can dissolve or disperse in water. The detergents in these cleaning agents help the oil-based soils to mix with water-based cleaning solutions. The techs also consider the pH of the residue and the pH of the cleaning agent.

When a stronger cleansing action is needed, the techs use bleaching solutions that either add oxygen or remove oxygen from the chemical structure of the soil. Depending on which action is required, the choice of a cleaning agent is made.

Whatever cleaning agent is chosen, the SERVPRO techs always protect the underlying surface that is being cleaned.

If you need help with fire restoration of your home, call SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville at (865) 862-8907.

Multiple Types of Smoke Residues Could Threaten Your Knoxville Home After a Fire Damage Incident

While wet smoke residues can be among the worst to clean and restore, specifically because of the thickness of coatings and the types of materials that can become affected, an almost equally challenging remnant to address are protein residues. These exist after fires break out in your kitchen, and specific types of meat, fish, poultry, and other protein-based foods burn.

Grease kitchen fires can already be challenging to extinguish for homeowners or even the first responders addressing fire damage in your Knoxville residence. The combustion of proteins could have instantaneous effects on exposed materials and contents within the room. The closest structural elements in the proximity of the fire can often be the worst damaged by these thick residues. Protein smoke damage can get identified by:

Do Cabinets Require Removal?

Close structural surfaces and fixtures within the kitchen can often become the worst damaged by these lingering residues. While combustion can compromise several individual cabinet units, the entirety of the cabinetry in your kitchen might not require removal and replacement. Cleaning and refinishing services might be more cost-effective, but this depends on the cabinets' material and the severity of the present damage. Careful consideration of these fixtures' condition is necessary by our project manager and crew chief to determine the best approach to return your damaged kitchen to its previous state efficiently.

Fire damage events can be devastating to your home, even when kitchen flare-ups keep the bulk of the damage localized to one room. Our SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville team can help with potent products, practical methods, and industry-leading equipment to address smoke residues and other damages after a fire. Residential Fire Damage in Knoxville Can be Handled by Our SERVPRO Team

When you need a quick fix for Knoxville residential fire damage, you'll need to hire a locally owned and operated company. If your property has suffered severe damage due to fire and smoke, it's essential to use a team of experienced damage control professionals. Once there, they can quickly diagnose the damage, assess the general situation, and get right to work on containing and correcting the problem. The sooner you contact them, the less chance you have of further damage. With any fire damage, time is of the essence.

Knoxville Residential Fire Damage Cleanup Needs

The trouble your property faces isn't over when the actual fire is finally put out. In fact, it may just be beginning. After the fire is extinguished, there is still the damage from smoke, as well as damage to the structure itself, to deal with. Also, there could be plenty of work to be done to get the property properly cleaned up, such as removing debris, neutralizing odors, and ventilating the area.

A Fast Response Means Less Problems

The primary goal of a Knoxville fire damage cleanup service is not only to limit the damage to your property but also to respond quickly enough to salvage as much as possible. A fast response is necessary to limit the damage and the overall cost of the job. After smoke and debris are cleared out, the restoration can begin, getting the property owner back to normal life in their family home.

Restoration Rather Than Replacement Is the Key

When it comes to fixing any fire damage in Knoxville, the key to a successful solution is restoration rather than replacement. While it would be easy for a cleanup team to simply recommend that the entire structure be torn down and replaced, the reality is that such a drastic measure may be completely unwarranted. It's usually far easier, more convenient, and more cost-effective to do a complete restoration job on your property rather than tearing it down.

What You Look for in a Fire Damage Service

Most people choose to go with a locally owned and operated business as they normally respond to your emergency quickly and get immediately to work. A reputable restoration service will give you an overview of what to expect before you begin. They should clear away the debris, do a thorough cleansing of any fire damage to your structure, clean up your upholstery, and purify the air so that you won't fall victim to any noxious and poisonous odors.

SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville is the company to call on when you need a quick, efficient, and cost-effective fix for all of your fire damage, cleanup, and restoration needs. When fire damage occurs in Knoxville, Rocky Hill, or Fort Sanders, we have the personnel to help. Contact us anytime at (865) 862-8907.

Fire damage remediation Process

A fire remediation company has the knowledge, training, and equipment required to eliminate the unattractive and unhealthy residues left by a fire. These professionals can help make your property livable again, as quickly as possible, and at a reasonable expense.

Techniques for Fire Damage Remediation

Fire damage remediation in Knoxville is done in several steps:

  • A complete inspection of the property is completed to assess areas of damage and ascertain areas requiring the most attention.
  • Areas affected by water from fighting the fire are thoroughly dried using industrial dehumidifiers and heavy-duty drying machines.
  • The HVAC system is dried and cleaned to prevent the growth of mold that can affect the health of the home residents.
  • Areas of the home that were damaged by flames are rebuilt.
  • Unsalvageable materials that have been damaged by fire and water are removed from the premises.

Correcting Water Damage

Water damage can cause as many problems as the fire itself. Furniture, construction materials, and personal items that remain in standing water can become a breeding ground for mold spores. Mold growth can cause several health effects. A Knoxville fire damage remediation company has the knowledge and equipment to thoroughly remove the moisture from all areas of your home, to restore it to a healthy environment.

SERVPRO Takes Care of Fire Damage Cleanup

Knoxville is the County Seat of Knox County in Tennessee, with a population of 187,603. Knoxville has a long and fascinating history, and one of the loveliest things about it is its proximity to the wide-open spaces of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Knoxville's history stretches back to 1000 BC, during the period known as the Woodland Period. The area has many prehistoric sites, including burial mounds, habitation sites, and even ancient villages. Settlers arrived in the area by the end of the eighteenth century, and Knoxville quickly became famous as a stopping point for travelers. By the middle of the nineteenth century, Knoxville had become a thriving trade center for locally produced items such as corn, tobacco, and whiskey.

Knoxville enjoyed a prosperous manufacturing industry in later years, although its fortunes declined during the great depression. Recent years have brought revitalization to the city, along with a rapidly growing arts movement.

Come and explore the Great Smoky Mountains

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park covers 522,419 acres and contains some of the highest mountains in North America. The park is well known for its grand mountain vistas, sweeping meadows, and fir population. Some say Knoxville was instrumental in getting the Great Smoky Mountains recognized as an area worth protecting and preserving. In 1913, Knoxville hosted the National Conservation Exposition, which ran for two months. The exposition focused on the area's resources and also included talks on the importance of local wildlife. Several citizens involved in the exhibition were involved in creating the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

There is so much to see and do in the park that you might find yourself spoiled for choice. One place to start is with the many historical sites within the park. Some popular historic locations include:

  • Cades Cove is an isolated limestone valley that is well-loved for its peace and quiet and scenic mountain views.
  • Roaring Fork Valley is home to the Roaring Fork stream. Walking through the valley will take you past beautiful waterfalls and river vistas. The Roaring Fork Historic District is home to several authentic nineteenth-century farm cabins.
  • Noah "Bud" Ogle Place is a beautifully preserved example of a nineteenth-century Appalachian farmstead. You can see the original farm cabin, barn, and tub mill.

As well as historic districts, the park offers miles of nature trails, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, and camping.

How can SERVPRO help with deodorization after fire damage?

Deodorization is a concern for any homeowner after fire damage. Smoke smells tend to linger and provide an unpleasant reminder of the blaze. There are several ways to deal with fire odors. One of the easiest ways is using odor counteracting beads. These beads:

  • Are permeated with solvent-based odor counteractants.
  • Release odor-fighting chemicals to drift on the air currents.
  • Mask smoke smells and freshen up the area we are treating.

Because of the solvent properties of the beads, we must not place them on plastics or paints. Instead, we place them in glass containers or on foil. We can also put them in the intake section of the A/C unit.

For help with smoky smells after fire damage, call SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville at (865) 862-8907.

SERVPRO is Ready to Offer Reliable Fire Damage Restoration Services in Affected Knoxville Properties

Knoxville is the largest city in East Tennessee Grand Division and the third-largest city in the state. It is also the county seat of Knox County and the principal city of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 2019, the estimated population in the area was 869,046. As of July 1st, 2019, the city had an estimated population of 187,603.

Knoxville was first inhabited in 1786 and was Tennessee’s first capital. Throughout the early 19th century, the city struggled with geographic isolation. However, in 1855, the railroad arrived in the area and its economy began to grow. The secession issue divided the city during the Civil War and both Union and Confederate armies occupied the area alternately.

After the Civil War, the city grew rapidly as a manufacturing and wholesaling center. The collapse of the manufacturing sector after the 1920s stagnated the city’s economy. That led to a decline in the downtown area and political fights entrenched the city’s leaders. However, the city rejuvenated after hosting the World’s Fair in 1982. Private developers and city leaders also played a significant role in the revival of the city, especially the downtown area.

The History of Knoxville

The first settlers of Knoxville were the indigenous people who arrived during the Woodland Period. A burial mound is among the oldest artificial structures found in the city and it was constructed during the Mississippian culture period. The city has preserved the earthwork mound but the University of Tennessee has developed the area around it.

The Early Woodland habitation area is among the prehistoric sites in the city. It is at the Tennessee River and Knob Creek junction. Other prehistoric sites include:

Bussell Island: It was originally inhabited by various Native American cultures for thousands of years before early European explorers arrived.

Dallas Phase: Located in South Appalachian Geologic province, it is an archeological phase within the Mississippian III period.

When the French and Indian War ended the Euro-American, the settlement grew drastically west of the Appalachians. In French Broad and Holston valleys, the white settlers had already established the areas by the 1780s. In 1785, the U.S Congress unsuccessfully ordered illegal settlers out of the valley.

In the modern days, development in the city has expanded beyond the South Knoxville waterfront and Tennessee River. The city adopted a long-term improvement project called the South Waterfront Vision Plan to re-energize the 750-acre waterfront on the Tennessee River.

The home of rich arts

Knoxville hosts several festivals in a year. The city’s contribution to old-time, bluegrass, and country music are significant from Homer and Jethro and Everly Brothers to the Flatt and Scruggs.

Established in 1935, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra (KSO) is the oldest continuing orchestra. Knoxville Symphony Orchestra maintains several full-time musicians who perform in over 200 events annually. The Civic Auditorium, Tennessee Theatre, and the Bijou Theatre are KSO’s traditional venues. However, it also performs in other non-traditional venues.

In 1943, Sergei Rachmaninoff a Russian composer and virtuoso pianist performed his final concert at the University of Tennessee at Alumni Memorial Auditorium. The Blender, an American music magazine ranked Knoxville city as the 17th best music scene in America.

Knoxville also hosts several art festivals. The most popular festival is the Dogwood Arts Festival, which celebrates and promotes regional culture, art, and natural beauty. The 17-day event takes place in April. In the same month, the city’s residents enjoy the Rossini Festival that celebrates Italian culture and opera.

June’s Kuumba Festival, which means creativity in Swahili, honors the region’s African American heritage and displays folk arts, music, games, dance, food, theater, storytelling, visual arts, and games.

The home of sports

The athletics program in the University of Tennessee popularly known as the “Vols,” or the “Volunteers,” is famous in Knoxville and its environs. The Vol’s football team plays at Neyland Stadium, one of the largest stadiums in the world. The city is also home to Thompson-Boling Arena where the men and women basketball teams play. The facility is the largest indoor basketball arena in the U.S.

The city is home to several professional sports team, including:

  • Knoxville Ice Bears
  • The Tennessee Smokies
  • Knoxville Force

The Great Smoky Mountains wildfires

In late November 2016, a complex set of wildfires began. Towns such as Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, which are near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, were the most affected. The fires left 190 people injured and claimed the lives of 14. It was one of the largest natural disasters in Tennessee’s history.

On 12 December, the fire had burned a significant chunk of land approximately 15 square miles (10,000 acres) inside the park. The fire also affected over 6,000 acres outside the park. The incident forced 14,000 residents as well as tourists to evacuate. The fire damaged around 2,000 buildings.

How does SERVPRO’s fire damage restoration process preserve Knoxville properties?

After a fire, do not try to remediate the affected area on your own. A reliable restorer has the experience needed to follow the proper fire restoration process to get your house to its pre-damaged state. At SERVPRO, we have a team of highly trained technicians who aim to minimize damage to our customer’s property.

Even after extinguishing the flames smoke and soot can continue to cause damage. While working on your property, we are cautious of:

Rust and corrosion: Kitchen appliances and electronics with metallic surfaces can corrode or rust when oxidized. This can cause the appliances to malfunction leading to expensive repairs. We can clean the affected appliances using advanced products to minimize damage effectively.

Soot staining: This occurs when soot in the air settles on various surfaces causing discoloration. The material and the time that is taken before restoration begins determines whether the soot staining is removable. If restoration is delayed the discoloration can be permanent. Our restorers can agitate affected surfaces using brushes, towels, air, and water pressure to eliminate the soot.

Mold: It can occur within 24 to 48 hours because of the water firefighters used to extinguish the flames. Mold can spread to other areas fast. If not remediated on time, it can cause health effects to occupants. Our restorers use effective disinfectants to clean the area leaving you in a safe home.

Even a small fire can cause irreversible damage to your property if not handled properly. Contact SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville at (865) 862-8907 for professional restoration.  We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

8/31/2020 (Permalink)

"We can help" No matter when you make the call, we have technicians who can assist you.

When your venue becomes damaged, restoring the fire loss effects often falls to the capable abilities of our fire restoration professionals.

With managing entertainment and event venues throughout Knoxville, you are continually balancing schedules and deadlines. Scheduling the upkeep and maintenance of your facilities can be problematic enough with a packed agenda, making situations like a fire loss to cause even more considerable challenges. As a leading professional fire restoration company, our SERVPRO team is locally owned and operated for a fast response to emergencies whenever they occur.

When discussing fire restoration for Knoxville venues, it is not often as straightforward as house fire recovery might be for restorers. The obstacles of post-fire restoration remain the same, though on a much grander scale that requires powerful equipment and unique strategies to resolve. Our objective is to address each of these main concerns as efficiently as possible to minimize the impact of scheduled events at the venue.

What Threats Exist in Your Venue After a Fire?

  • SootPartial combustion creates carcinogens that can be harmful to those exposed and leave thick residues on surfaces and contents. Several cleaning practices can help remove these residues, including chemical solvents and detergents.
  • Debris – Piles of partially combusted remnants, ash, and other solids can become hazardous debris left throughout the venue. Shoveling out the piles and vacuuming up what is left prevents higher concentrations of odor and soot and can showcase any possible structural problems.
  • Structural Concerns – We have in-house contractors dispatched with our restoration technicians for temporary repairs and ultimate full-scale build-back when damages get identified.
  • Odors – Lingering smoke and burning scents make it difficult to rent your facilities, so we focus on removing any of these odors with practices like thermal fogging and using hydroxyl generators.

Waiting even a few hours before lining up restoration means permanent damage to the structural components and contents of your home. Put your trust in us: We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

SERVPRO Provides Excellent Results for Fire & Smoke Recovery

As the flames that consumed materials in your Rocky Hill home extinguish, the fire damage is just getting started. Smoke pervades every space, even far from the initial site of the fire. We have strategies to clear and clean up the soot fast, setting the stage for other restoration steps.

Our crews in Knoxville train to be masters of fire damage restoration, able to assess the aftermath quickly and confidently design a plan for speedy recovery. Our Fire Damage Experts Provide Exceptional Fire and Odor Removal Services In Knoxville

12/8/2019 (Permalink)

fire and smoke damage to home Getting on top of odor takes more than just opening windows.

Exceptional Fire and Odor Removal Services for Knoxville Residents

One of the most prominent after-effects of a fire is not structural damage but odor. Housing structure tends to be robust enough to absorb the effects of anything but the most extreme temperatures and open flames. However, there's still a significant amount of work to be done after a contained fire to get your home back to preloss condition. Our odor control technicians (OCT) break the task down into two facets. The first is to remove odor-causing soiling and dry the property thoroughly after cleaning. The second is to use deodorizing solvents to fumigate the area thoroughly.

You should seek professional advice when dealing with fire and odor problems in your Knoxville home. While there are some mitigating efforts a homeowner can perform themselves, the lion's share of work requires training and job-specific equipment. If you would like to begin the restoration procedure, you can start by opening windows to disperse chemical particles in the air. Another useful job to do while waiting for your technician to arrive is to vacuum areas where soiling is present. To avoid inadvertently causing further damage, spots of heavy soiling, as well as walls and ceilings, are best left to a professional.

The first stage of odor-removal is to tackle the odor-causing elements that remain in the home. A full inspection of your heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system can be vital in preventing odors from coming back. Equally, greasy soot deposits caused by the burning of synthetic materials need to be dissolved and removed. SERVPRO technicians can apply an oil-based solvent to these areas before performing rinse and removal. In some cases, walls can be repainted with an odor retardant primer to lock unpleasant odors away and leave a clean surface for repainting.

The final stage is to use odor repellents or deodorization methods. Vacuuming using truck-mounted extractors can double down on the cleaning efforts by loading liquid deodorants beforehand. Truck-mounts can also be fitted with pre-conditioning products for carpets and upholstery. However, after both drying and cleaning are complete, malodors can remain behind. We can fumigate the property using ultra-low volume (ULV) foggers to disperse deodorant particles into the air and neutralize odor. These are versatile enough to use throughout the home or in a single area.

Getting on top of odor takes more than just opening windows. Contact SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville at (865) 862-8907.

How We Clean Residues After Knoxville Housefires

9/30/2019 (Permalink)

A ball with fire flames. SERVPRO keeps the ball rolling with your fire damage clean up in knoxville.

Let us show you the right way to take care of the aftermath of your Knoxville fire damage.

As much as we stay dedicated to providing Knoxville homeowners with the most efficient and effective response to their fire loss incidents, we can often help the most when we take a moment and establish what our team faces. Many potential sources and materials could generate hazardous residues that vary in both severity and methods to clean. We must follow a specific plan to ensure that these threats get addressed promptly and correctly.

This fire damage in Knoxville homes can be an overwhelming sight, especially when residues are overtaking many of the contents in an affected area of your home. Our professionals can detail these potential risks within our initial damage assessment conducted by the crew chief and production manager. With the experience and training that these technicians have, we can assess the severity of the damage to your home, and begin the process of identification with individual residues.

Finding the damage is not always a challenge, though certain residues require specific approaches to overcome. Smoke residue, for example, requires different cleaning agents and tools than the chemical sponges and pre-vacuuming with a HEPA filtered device necessary when addressing soot effects. The best approach to determine both the type of residue present and the best approach to remove it entirely is pre-testing.

In most situations, our restorers utilize practices like vacuuming and dissolving to carry soil away from affected surfaces and contents. Vacuuming involves removing dry, loose particulates heaped on surfaces like you find with smoke residues. This pre-treatment must occur before applying a cleaning agent and other moisture, as these factors can allow the particulates to become absorbed in the material below and be even more of a challenge to remove. Dissolving does not pull loose sediment, but it removes the bond between the residue and the surface beneath it so it can get more easily wiped clean.

Because of how challenging removing residues can be, especially in identifying the best practice for each type, you can count on our SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville team to help. We have the training and expertise to handle residues where they are found to make losses “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call today at (865) 862-8907.

Separating Contents and Structure for Efficient Fire Damage Restoration in Knoxville

After a fire in your property, there may be several different types of tradesman required to deal with the damage left behind. Commonly, a carpet cleaner alongside a building maintenance janitor can perform cleaning duties on some parts of the home. A restorer, however, is in charge of two distinct areas, the contents and the structure of the home. Their goal is to restore the property to a condition before the fire; known in the industry as restoring to a preloss condition.

Our technicians can help you with fire damage in Knoxville. The cleaning carried out by a restorer is unique and requires careful assessment of the affected area before any work can begin. SERVPRO technicians also conduct a pre-test, which gives an understanding of the type of smoke damages- different in every fire- we are dealing with and the best way to remove them. There be considerations given to malodor, which often persists even after the structure and contents have been cleaned.

In dealing with contents, your SERVPRO restorer must likely remove them from the affected area and place them in a designated clean area- which can be offsite. We do this because smoke residues require agitative cleaning, which can cause soots or smokes to drop onto possessions causing further fire damage. Most soft furnishings can be returned to preloss conditions using foam cleaning, which reduces the likelihood of fabrics shrinking or bleeding dye.

Once the removal of contents for separate cleaning is complete, a SERVPRO technician can begin working on the structure. The goal is to restore rather than replace. Wet cleaning methods can clear most soots and smoke residues. Where wet cleaning may cause damage to the finish of a particular item, a door, for example, dry cleaning methods can be used. Interior and exterior walls are cleaned thoroughly with charred materials removed for disposal. Sometimes structure can be so severely damaged that they require replacement, but this procedure is the last option for restorers.

Careful structural and contents cleaning can avoid expensive replacement costs, contact SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville at (865) 862-8907 to arrange restoration.

In the unfortunate event of a fire in your residence, SERVPRO can help with clean up and restoration.

Fixing Fire Damage In Knoxville Is Easier With The Right Resources

It is common to associate fire incidents with activities involving fire considering unattended cooking is one of the leading causes of home fires. However, fires also start from unusual sources. For example, a refrigerator can spark a fire if the compressor overheats when confined in an enclosed space. The good news is that restoring fire-damaged Knoxville properties to preloss state is possible. It only requires the right set of skills, equipment, and other resources.

The resources needed to restore fire damage in Knoxville depend on how intense the blaze was or the materials involved in the combustion process. When caught in time, many fires are extinguished before they consume the entire structure making it possible to save items through restorative cleaning and refinishing. Through simple steps such as checking the smoke deposit patterns, our SERVPRO technicians can establish the impact of the fire and the best remedial action. For example, visible heat lines on the walls indicate a blazing fire. Removing deposits in such incidents requires extra cleaning efforts because of the impingement on the surface.

The location affected by the fire might also affect the restoration process. Fire in the attic is more distressing to homeowners since it is confined to a crawlspace making it hard to inspect the level of damage. The restoration process also involves significant levels of teardown to remove insulation, drywall, and even electrical features affected by the fire. Our SERVPRO technicians handle all the steps, starting with photos to document the level of damage for insurance purposes. We also teardown the affected materials then install new insulation and drywall before repainting or completing other finishing steps.

In many cases, restoring fire-damaged property requires removal of contents from the affected area to another section of the property or a separate storage facility. Moving is a tedious process, especially when everything is covered in soot. Our SERVPRO crews help move items effortlessly because we work as a team. In the case of bulky items, we also have lifting equipment like forklifts.

In the unfortunate event of a fire in your residence, SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville can help with clean up and restoration. Call us at (865) 862-8907 any time. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

How SERVPRO Can Help You Come Back From Smoke Damage in Your Bearden Home

11/9/2018 (Permalink)

Our priority is to take care of your home and restore the smoke damage "Like it never even happened."

Bearden's Fire Damage Restoration Team Talks About Problems Associated With Smoke

If a fire ever starts inside your Bearden residence, both the heat and smoke created by it can cause you problems. Flames can burn your contents and cause fire damage to your building materials. Smoke can also cause many issues throughout your home as it floats through the building. The effects of smoke can easily be seen after something burns in the form of charred objects or discolored surfaces. During most fire damage restoration projects, dealing with smoke-related issues is a large part of the process.

Shortly after the burn takes place, the effects of smoke can be seen on your walls, ceilings, and other surfaces. During any fire damage project in Bearden, our SERVPRO team inspects your entire home looking for stains or discoloration due to smoke. As soon as we receive your call, we send our emergency response team out to inspect your home and to write up an initial estimate for you and your insurance company. During the first estimate, we walk around your property and determine what we think will need to be replaced and what we think we can repair with cleaning or refinishing techniques.

Smoke consists of substances that did not fully combust or turn into gas with the application of heat. Since fires burn different fuels at a variety of different temperatures the composition of the partially combusted particles varies. Fires that burn fast, hot and have plenty of oxygen put out a dry smoke that is the easiest to clean and can be wiped off of most surfaces. Blazes that burn slowly at lower temperatures and are oxygen starved release wet smoke that can adhere well to surfaces and be extremely difficult to clean.

Locally Owned Company with National Resources

Smoke can also penetrate deep into porous materials causing them to produce foul, burnt aromas. Sometimes the smell of smoke and burnt substances can linger in the building after all charred items get removed, and soot residues are cleaned. In these cases, deodorization techniques such as ULV fogging or using an ozone machine get utilized. If you ever suffer a structure fire on your property, call SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville at (865) 862-8907 24 hours a day.

SERVPRO Technicians Use Many Ways to Effectively Combat Odor After a Fire in Rocky Hill

9/30/2018 (Permalink)

Fire damage can seem insurmountable when you first set eyes on it. Call SERVPRO right away to remediate.

Overcoming Smoke Damages from a Fire in Your Rocky Hill Home

Disasters in your Rocky Hill home can be challenging to overcome, even with the most dedicated of work on your part or those that offer to help. Many situations leave their primary effects which can prove overwhelming enough to overcome, but also have secondary effects that can be equally concerning to resolve. In a situation like a fire in your house, you not only have the immediate structural concerns to contend with, but you also have secondary effects like smoke and soot damages.

Fire damages in your Rocky Hill residence rarely become the responsibility of the homeowner to resolve. From the moment that the first responders leave the scene, you speak to the insurance provider covering your home and find out the details you need to get in order to file a claim that funds the restoration. Professionals like our SERVPRO team can arrive quickly to begin assessing the damage and determining what needs to occur to make the situation “Like it never even happened.”

While you might be the most concerned about the pressing structural concerns that occur from the widespread fire that had recently gotten extinguished, several secondary effects could pose a threat to those within the house such as smoke damages. This effect often presents itself as a noxious odor that spreads well beyond the immediately affected areas of your house and requires specialized equipment from our SERVPRO professionals to overcome.

Addressing this effect is one of the last steps in the restoration process, and it involves setting up equipment like thermal foggers to break up the odor on a molecular level. The odorless chemical solution removes the harsh scent from the atmosphere, and can also get safely used on embedded odors within fabrics, furniture, and drapery.

While smoke damages might not top the list of your primary concerns when it comes to dealing with the effects of a fire in your home, this is an essential part of the complete restoration process for our technicians. Our SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville team is ready to help overcome all of the effects of the disaster as promptly as possible. Give us a call anytime at (865) 862-8907.

The Far-Reaching Effects of Soot Damage in Your Knoxville Home

9/3/2018 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Starts the Fire and Smoke Damage Cleanup and Restoration As Soon as the Knoxville Fire Trucks Leave

SERVPRO Improves Air Quality during the Fire & Smoke Cleanup and Restoration Services for Your Property

Soot damage is a common concern following a disaster in your Knoxville home. The manner in which it spreads to affect new areas of your residence, materials, and contents makes it one of the most challenging of consequences to restore. Even more to the point, this result from a fire disaster in your home is not something that the homeowner can readily remove on their own for several different reasons.

If you experience fire damages in your Knoxville residence, it can surprise you to how widespread and challenging they are to overcome. Many homeowners find themselves overwhelmed by the extent of the damage. The insurance company is often the one to require professional restoration work like our SERVPRO rapid response team. Not only can we provide a detailed estimate and photographic proof of the damage sustained, but begin work quickly on mitigating the loss throughout the affected areas of your home upon a signed contract.

Soot damage can be especially challenging because it coats everything that it comes into contact with, providing a sheet of dirt and debris for our SERVPRO technicians to clean up. Often these films can get remedied with dry/wet sponging or through the use of high-powered vacuums, but that rarely takes care of the entire problem. Soot travels through air ducts, leaving the residue throughout this network of sheet metal, fiberboard, or flex in the walls of your home that require concentrated efforts to remove.

Another concern about soot damage is the effect on the environment within your house that must get addressed quickly as well. Our technicians often have to employ equipment like hydroxyl generators and air scrubbers outfitted with HEPA and carbon filtration systems to help remove debris and soot on even microscopic levels from the air in the affected areas of your home. This provides the added feature of safe and clean indoor air quality IAQ.

While soot damage is just one of the many symptoms that linger in your home after a fire gets extinguished, it is something that requires expertise and the right equipment to restore. Our SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville fire restoration technicians are available anytime that you need us by calling (865) 862-8907.

Team SERVPRO Knows That Fire Damage Has Many Facets Which Can Include Soot and Smoke

Sometimes the unexpected happens, and a fire breaks out inside your Knoxville townhome. In any fire scenario, first things are first, and it is essential that you make sure your family and your pets are safe. Next, it is crucial that the blaze gets put out and the dangers involved get eliminated.

After the threats of fire are over, it is now time to deal with the damage it caused. The best move is to notify SERVPRO's fire damage experts of Knoxville immediately after the burn takes place. Our team is IICRC certified and has experience dealing with fires of all different levels of severity.

Sometimes when the blaze is small, smoke damage is the only issue. Other times, flames and heat burn and char contents and building materials inside your townhouse. Many times, some damage is evident, and other things get ruined that are not readily noticeable.

Smoke coming from a fire, many times devastates your home. Smoke often leaves soot residues and causes foul odors to remain inside a structure. When dealing with smoke damage, the first thing we do is clean any soot residues that exists.

Then, after soot gets cleaned our restoration crew works to get rid of foul odors that are still present. First, we remove the odor source and debris. Eliminating the source of pungent odors, sometimes keeps odors from spreading to other areas of the building.

Next, we re-create the conditions that caused the initial odor problem. If smoke caused the bad smell, then deodorizing chemicals get dispersed inside the building in a way that mimics how the smoke penetrated materials and made them stink. Our restoration crew usually accomplishes this task by using fogging equipment to pump deodorization chemicals into the air and building materials.

Don't let any damage caused by smoke go untreated. Whenever heat or smoke causes problems inside your home, call SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoya Hill / South Knoxville at (865) 862-8907 for assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Different Types of Fire Damage in Rocky Hill Have Distinctive Restoration Techniques

Electrical Fires Cause Damage to Rocky Hill Homes--Call SERVPRO for Cleanup

Fire and Smoke Sources Often Dictate the Manner of Restoration

Fires can have very different characteristics and may make the work SERVPRO does in repairing fire damage in Rocky Hill longer, shorter, or anything in between. Some fires, like electrical fires, may require specific safety protocols and cleanup techniques. Others may be problematic due to the size and spread of fires of that variety. Here are a few of the most common types of fires in modern American homes, and how we deal with them.

Electrical Fires

One of the most common ways to get fire damage in Rocky Hill is through an electrical fire. Electrical fires, as the name suggests, start from short-circuited or malfunctioning electronics. Large amounts of electrical energy become concentrated in one area or touch a flammable surface, and ignites. The source of these fires cannot be put out with water, and are often actually caused by water touching an exposed power line or delicate electronic item. When dealing with the results of these fires, SERVPRO technicians must take care to avoid using water-based cleanup techniques until the area has been sufficiently secured.

Grease Fires

Grease fires most often start in the kitchen when food is left unwatched, or something goes wrong in the cooking process. While most grease fires can be quickly put out by a hopefully nearby fire extinguishers, they may still cause significant damage to the kitchen and cause smoke damage around the home. We take care to treat situations according to their size, efficiently conducting restorations without being overly intrusive in your home. Odor abatement from protein fires is of particular need for professional services like those offered by SERVPRO FST technicians.

Weather-Caused Fires

Many fires start during powerful storms when lightning strikes the home, or another damage is caused by falling power lines, floodwaters, or wildfires. Fire damage of this variety tends to be significant and wide-spread across the home and may require a lengtheir restoration process. Also, floods and other types of water damage may add to your problems, requiring separate restoration procedures. SERVPRO is licensed to clean up all types of damage that may result from a storm and can then prepare the property for a rehab.

SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville is ready around the clock to respond to your call. If your home has been hit by fire damage, contact us at (865) 862-8907.

Remediating Rocky Hill Fire Damage

11/7/2017 (Permalink)

Although a small percentage of fires destroy a house completely, most of the remediation cost is from smoke and soot.

Fire Damage Remediation

Any house fire in a Rocky Hill home causes some damage. Although a small percentage of fires destroy a house completely, most of the remediation cost is from smoke and soot. The time to clean affected structure and property is a lengthy process, but usually, it is cheaper than dealing with a home that requires extensive work to clear out and replace burned property.

Due to smoke and soot, much of the Rocky Hill fire damage can center around the heating and air conditioning system. Once we begin to inspect a home, SERVPRO runs through a short checklist with the owner and fire department, if they were called out, to determine how extensive the residue may be and the actions we need to take.

First, what was the proximity of the vents to the fire? The closer the vents and the air conditioner or furnace were to the fire itself, the more likely we need to clean the system.

Was the air or heat turned on and in operation? If yes, did smoke enter the supply side of the system? If the answer to both is yes, then there is smoke residue inside the ductwork.

Did smoke blow out of the return vents? If it did, then the residue is probably throughout the entire duct works, and SERVPRO technicians must bring in extendable brushes and fog machines to generate a cloud of cleaning agents that can reach every surface inside the ducts.

How long did the fire burn? A quickly extinguished blaze does not have time to generate much smoke, which means the amount of residue is small. One that burned a longer period, even if there were few flames, generates much more smoke which travels through the home, leaving a residue over a wider area. The surface residue is thicker as well, requiring stronger cleaners. It is more likely that we need to remove and replace building material such as ceiling tiles, drywall, and floor trim.

Each question we ask at a house fire provides valuable information to help return your home to its pre-fire condition. The goal of SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville is to help you return your life to its pre-fire condition as well. Call us at (865) 862-8907 if you need us or just have a question.

Electrical Shorts Can Cause Fire Damage to Your Rocky Hill Apartment

10/9/2017 (Permalink)

You should regularly check your appliances to prevent fire damage from frayed cords and wiring.

Fast and Efficient Fire Damage Restoration Services

Everyday living requires the use of multiple electrical appliances. Some are larger than others while others are handheld and even portable. Your Rocky Hill apartment most likely holds several examples of both sizes. Any appliance, regardless of size or function, can develop problems with frayed cords or pinched wiring.

In the Rocky Hill area, fire damage can come from problems with wiring or cords that become overheated or come into direct contact with materials that ignite when exposed to bare wires. Checking your appliances on a regular basis can prevent this situation. At SERVPRO, we understand that every home contains several appliances but cannot stress enough the importance of such maintenance.

After appliance-created fire damage affects your apartment, we can mitigate the problem quickly and efficiently. SERVPRO technicians earn and retain certificates from the IICRC in Fire and Smoke Restoration (FSRT), enabling them to carry out the required work. When water from the fire department remains behind, saturating your walls and floors, our extensive equipment can handle this aspect, as well.

Because fire and smoke create noxious odors from the soot, removing as much as possible can reduce smells significantly. This is crucial with shared central air or heating systems between apartment units in the same building. Otherwise, your neighbors may experience problems with soot particles that flow into their dwellings, impacting their air quality for months. Because timely responses can minimize this situation, mitigation should begin immediately after any size fire.

Even in small fires that never required the fire department's response, smoke can travel far and wide. We have the equipment and measuring devices to detect where smoke went, and can then clean it up, eliminating the problem before it can spread. Fire does not need to be large to require professional clean up services.

SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville is always ready to help with fire damage mitigation, no matter the severity. Cleaning up soot and smoke deposits protects your health and that of others around you. Our local number is answered 24/7 by professionals who can provide the assistance you need. Contact us at (865) 862-8907 any day of the year to make sure your apartment receives the attention it needs.

Fire Damage In Knoxville

12/3/2016 (Permalink)

Fire damage isn't just about property loss; it is also about getting people back into their homes and returning them to their normal lives.

Our Fire Damage Restoration Process

Our community had an apartment fire on the 21st. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but 23 people are now displaced and living with family (hopefully), or in shelters and hotels. To some degree, their lives are now on hold.

Fire damage in Knoxville isn't just about property loss; it is also about getting people (like those 23) back into their homes and returning them to their normal lives. SERVPRO works diligently to make that happen for every customer and neighbor. In order to speed the process along, we have three immediate objectives and six actions that we take to return a home, apartment building or any other structure to a livable state as quickly as possible.

1) Provide a safe work environment for people who enter the structure.
2) Prepare the site to begin restoration work.
3) Prevent fire and smoke damage from causing further property damage and destruction.

To accomplish these objectives, our restoration teams will accomplish the following:

Inspections - Examine the building for safety and health hazards.

Board It Up - If needed, this helps prevents vandalism, trespassing, and looting.

Dry It Out - Sprinklers and the Fire Department will leave water and possible fire suppression foam in the structure. Water and moisture levels will need to be brought down to normal levels as quickly as possible.

Establish Power - If the wiring or electrical outlets are compromised, then our technicians will set up generators to provide light and heat for the restoration work.

Clear The Air - In extreme cases, the smoke odor may be so strong that the work site is uninhabitable. To remove it, we'll use air scrubbers and thermal foggers to take care of it.

Initial Cleaning - Personal possessions such as clothing need to be cleaned immediately if possible. This is so displaced residents can have as much of their normal life with them as they are living in temporary housing. We maintain special washers designed to clean soot and smoke residue. We also provide this service for bed linens, carpets, and some furniture.

Restoration cost is a major concern for people displaced by a fire. For many family members, it is a distant second to getting back into their home. SERVPRO of Rocky Hill / Sequoyah Hills / South Knoxville understands this desire and works with each client to return them to their normal life as soon as we can. If you need our help, call us today at (865) 862-8907.
