Knoxville Water Intrusion in a Basement
This finished basement in an upscale Knoxville home suffered a water leak. The saturated carpet was the main casualty of the water, though the wood paneling was warped in several places. The owner wanted to replace the carpet, so we dried out the concrete floor after we removed the water damaged carpet and padding. We set up dehumidifiers and heaters and made sure to dry out the damaged paneling also. It took three days to eliminate the moisture trapped in the hard concrete flooring. Patience paid off when the new padding and carpet were installed on a 12% moisture verified foundation. Our SERVPRO rep suggested that the homeowner purchases a portable dehumidifier to maintain a constant RH in this basement to mitigate odors and the potential for a mold growth.
